Plateforms

The lab needs to be able to provide many different platforms.
Virtualisation is used as much as possible to save hardware and energy. It uses VmWare ESXi to host the various Intel/AMD platform, like windows or linux platforms.
However, certain platforms cannot be hosted in a virtual environment as they use proprietary hardware. The lab has a couple of SGI and SUN hardware system to host such platforms.

Windows2000, XP, Vista and 7 clients, 2003 and 2008 servers

MacOS X

LinuxDebian, Ubuntu, RedHat, Mandriva

SUNSolaris 8 et 10

SGIIrix 5.3 et 6.5

Hardware

To host the various platforms, the lab is equiped with 3 SUN boxes, 2 SGI  and an Intel based server.

The SUN boxes are:
- SUN Ultra 5, cheap on ebay and with IDE componants.
- SUN Ultra 2, a classic and affordable.
- SUN E450, a server platform donated.

For SGI:
- SGI Indy, donated and full of functionnalities.
- SGI Octane. Excellent Unix platform.

For Mac:
- Mac Mini, small with plenty of resources.

For the Intel/AMD server:
- DELL T105, small, economical and with reasonable performance for a test environment.

For the clients:
- old PCs or in virtual mode.
